How the Storen day actually runs

Evening gear huddle (Turtagrø)
We meet the night before for a 30–45 min check: fine-tune kit, review forecast, and pick the smartest line for the conditions.

Approach (morning start)

From Turtagrø we hike into the beautiful Skagadalen and continue across Skagastølsbreen. A steady push brings us to the broad ledge known as Bandet.
Time to Bandet: about 3 hours at a calm, efficient pace.

Upper mountain
Above Bandet the terrain steepens. We scramble up to the Corner, then the character turns more exposed and we climb roped sections to the summit. The usual lines here are Galleriet combined with either Halls Renne (Hall’s Couloir) or Vigdals Sva (Vigdal Slab)—chosen on the day for safety and flow.

Return
Measured down-climbing and a few short rappels, then we retrace our steps over the glacier and out Skagadalen to Turtagrø.

Difficulty—what to expect
While the hardest moves are only around Norwegian grade 4+, Store Skagastølstind is still a serious mountain outing. The climbing is just one part of a long, exposed day that demands solid fitness, sure-footed movement, and good focus from valley to summit and back.
