Kvanndalstind via Vengedalen — ridge & glacier link-up
Why this line
A compact alpine sampler in Romsdalen: lake basin, small glacier, airy crest and a pitched finish. Big views, hands-on movement and that unmistakable high-mountain feel without a marathon approach.
Route snapshot (step by step)
-
Vengedalen → Olaskarsvatnet: The trail leaves the valley and bites straight away; in ~1 hour we’re above the benches near Olaskarsvatnet.
-
Toward the west glacier: We contour the lake and angle up to the glacier west of Kvanndalstind. Rope on if needed, quick, efficient crossing.
-
Gain the ridge: We top out on the crest between Kvanndalstind and Søre Vengetind.
-
Crest travel: Mostly scrambling with the odd short rock step; the exposure builds steadily and the scenery keeps widening.
-
Summit tower: The final section steepens; we usually climb 3–4 short pitches to the top.
-
Descent
One or two neat abseils (rappels), then we retrace our steps down the ridge and back into Vengedalen.

Who it suits
Strong, sure-footed hikers who are comfortable with heights and long days. Previous rock experience helps but isn’t essential if coordination and fitness are solid.
Optional extra
Moving well and want a little more? A brief look-in toward Torshammeren can be added without compromising safety or daylight.
Guide’s note
Among the seven summits in the “Fjelldronning” (Mountain Queen) collection, Kvanndalstind sits on the more demanding side—not because of hard grades, but thanks to exposure, varied terrain and the steady effort. Earn it, and you’ll want the rest.
